The Michigan Relocation Council (MiRC) is proud to announce a Scholarship Opportunity for current high school seniors who have relocated into Detroit, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo Public Schools and their surrounding counties over the course of their high school career.
To qualify for the scholarship, the student must have relocated more than 50 miles sometime between grades 9 (after completion of 8th grade) and 12 and changed schools due to their family’s relocation. Residence eligibility is defined as a senior attending a public school within Detroit, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo Public Schools and their surrounding counties. The applicant must also have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 (or equivalent achievement on a different scale).
Students will be evaluated on academic performance, extra-curricular activities, and on their response to an essay addressing the way they handled the challenges associated with relocating to a new area and a new high school.
A one-time award of $1,000 will be sent directly to the college that the winning applicant will be attending to assist with tuition, etc.
The winner will be cordially invited, along with his/her parent(s), to join us in person at our 2nd Quarter meeting, at which time we will have a chance to meet them, discuss their experience, and formally award the scholarship.
